It appears as if Brett Favre isn’t ready to make up with the Green Bay Packers quite yet.
In an interview with ESPN Milwaukee, former Packers president and CEO Bob Harlan revealed that he suggested to the Packers Hall of Fame committee that they extend an invitation to Favre to attend former Packers coach Mike Holmgren‘s enshrinement in late July.
The Hall of Fame committee reached out to Favre’s agent Bus Cook, but didn’t get an answer back.
Harlan retired as Packers president and CEO prior to Favre’s ugly divorce with the organization. Some have thought that he would make an excellent intermediary between the two parties.
“I just think somebody – and I think the Mike Holmgren dinner would have been the perfect situation for him – but somehow, some way, we’ve got to get him back here,” Harlan told ESPN Milwaukee. “And how that’s going to happen, I really don’t know. I don’t know what the thinking is in the Packers office right now, but it means a lot to me. And you know, Brett’s told me on two separate occasions that the person who made him a quarterback was Mike Holmgren. Maybe a Mike Holmgren could talk to him and convince him to come back someday.”
Harlan also said in the interview that Favre might be worried about how he would be received at Lambeau Field, feeling as if he may still be booed for his role in the split.
“There’s going to be a lot of people who love him, but there’s going to be some people – particularly after tailgating all morning – who aren’t going to appreciate him,” Harlan said in the interview. “And I think he finds that very tough to handle. And I understand that. But I’d love to get him back (to Green Bay), and I think if he saw the warmth of the people here and the loyalty and the appreciation so many people do have for him. But it’s going to be awfully tough.”
